Deputy Minister of Defense: Enhancing military cooperation with China

May Al-Sukari - Kuwait’s Undersecretary of Defense, Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Mishaal Al-Sabah, reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening its defense and military relations with the People’s Republic of China, praising the strategic partnership between the two countries and expressing the aspiration to develop it in a manner that contributes to supporting security, stability, and prosperity in the region.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait’s celebration of the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army, he said he was pleased to participate in the occasion, extending his sincere congratulations to the Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait, the military attaché, embassy staff, and to the government and people of the friendly People’s Republic of China.

He added that the occasion represents an opportunity to value the distinguished relations linking Kuwait and China, which are based on bonds of friendship and strategic partnership, particularly in the fields of defense and security. He noted that this relationship rests on mutual respect, constructive dialogue, and a firm strategic partnership.

He clarified that Kuwait looks forward to developing this relationship in the coming phase to support security, stability, and prosperity in the region, wishing the People’s Republic of China continued progress and success.

In response to Al-Qabas’s questions about whether the developments and events unfolding in the region warrant expanding military and security cooperation between Kuwait and China, Sheikh Abdullah Mishaal Al-Sabah stated that Kuwait always strives to build bridges of defense cooperation with various countries around the world, emphasizing that Kuwait’s defense policy is based on enhancing cooperation with friendly states in military and defense fields.

Regarding discussions with the Chinese side on leveraging their expertise in air defense and unmanned aerial vehicles, especially given Kuwait’s interest in this field and its cooperation with other countries, he explained that cooperation is conducted with each country individually according to specific areas, noting that cooperation with China includes military industries, foremost among which is the production of light and medium ammunition currently present in Kuwait.

He added that a Kuwaiti Army delegation visited the People’s Republic of China last week to discuss ways to enhance military cooperation between the two countries, serving mutual interests.

When asked whether there are new deals or joint military exercises, he said: “They will be announced in due course.”
