Spain tops FIFA World Rankings, Argentina second

Spain has claimed the top spot in the FIFA World Rankings, released by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), following their victory in the 2026 World Cup with a 1-0 win over Argentina. Spain rose to number one with 1,995.88 points, overtaking Argentina, which slipped to second place with 1,970.37 points. France and England occupied third and fourth places, respectively, while Brazil moved up one spot to fifth, followed by Morocco in sixth. Portugal dropped two places to seventh, Belgium rose to eighth, the Netherlands fell to ninth, and Mexico climbed four positions to take tenth in the rankings.

The Egyptian national team advanced four places to 24th globally, followed by Algeria at 29th, Tunisia at 57th, Saudi Arabia at 58th, and Qatar at 59th.

Meanwhile, the Spanish national team received an official welcome at the Royal Palace of Zarzuela upon their return to Madrid as 2026 World Cup champions, amid massive public celebrations in the city’s streets. King Felipe VI welcomed the players and coaching staff inside the royal palace, congratulating them on their historic achievement and praising the performance of “La Roja” throughout the tournament.

Speaking during the reception, King Felipe VI said, “When our national team plays, we all play, and when you won, you did so for all of Spain.”

Following the royal palace ceremony, the Spanish players proceeded to the Prime Minister’s Office before embarking on a celebratory parade through the streets of Madrid on an open-top bus, surrounded by huge crowds.
