FIFA awards a ring to the World Cup champion, following the example of the American football champion

For the first time in World Cup history, FIFA has decided to award the winning national team a commemorative gold ring featuring a miniature replica of the trophy, engraved with the words “FIFA World Cup Champions.” This move by FIFA mirrors the tradition of champion rings in the National Football League (NFL) and the National Basketball Association (NBA). FIFA announced that 30 copies of the champions’ ring will be presented to members of the winning squad, while 1,996 identical replicas will be made available for sale to World Cup fans.
