Foreign Ministry: Iranian missile and drone aggression is a violation of Kuwait's sovereignty

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Kuwait’s condemnation and strongest denunciation of the culpable Iranian aggression involving missiles and drones that targeted Kuwaiti territory today, Friday, July 17, 2026. The attack struck one of the power and water desalination stations, resulting in a fire and causing damage to several electricity generation units. This constitutes a blatant violation of the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of the State of Kuwait, as well as a grave breach of international law, international humanitarian law, the United Nations Charter, and Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026). The Ministry affirmed that the continuation of this aggressive approach represents a highly dangerous escalation that threatens regional security and stability, constitutes a blatant challenge to international legitimacy, and undermines efforts aimed at de-escalation and achieving peaceful solutions. The Ministry further emphasized the State of Kuwait’s inherent right to take the necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty and preserve its security and stability, in accordance with the provisions of international law.
