Jordan: The Iranian narrative that there are US bases here is incorrect

Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi denied the existence of U.S. bases in his country, noting that the American military presence in the Kingdom is part of a long-standing cooperation between Jordan and the United States. Speaking during a dialogue session at the Aspen Security Forum in the United States, Safadi stated that the Iranian narrative claiming the presence of U.S. bases in Jordan and using it to justify attacks is false. According to the Jordanian monarchy’s channel, the minister affirmed that U.S. soldiers have been present in the Kingdom for a long time as part of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in combating the Islamic State, and under a defense agreement that respects Jordan’s sovereignty and the foundations of cooperation between the two sides. Safadi stressed that his country “is not part of, nor a party to, this conflict,” condemning Iranian attacks on Jordan and Gulf states and emphasizing that they are “unacceptable and unjustified.” The Iranian Revolutionary Guard had claimed on Tuesday that it targeted a U.S. air base in Jordan with ballistic missiles, while the Jordanian Army confirmed that it intercepted four missiles launched from Iran that entered its airspace.
