Conclusion of the Arab Security Media Conference with Kuwaiti participation: Joint efforts to combat terrorism, violence, and hatred
The 17th Arab Conference of Heads of Security Media Agencies concluded today (Thursday) in the Tunisian capital, with representatives from Kuwait and interior ministries of Arab countries, as well as the Union of Arab Radio and Television Stations, participating.
In a statement, the General Secretariat of the Arab Ministers of Interior Council said the conference called on Arab security media agencies to expand security media production by utilizing artificial intelligence applications, particularly in the fields of news and security awareness, to achieve the required quality and appeal, while saving time, effort, and financial resources.
The conference also urged member states to focus on the role of artificial intelligence in monitoring and analyzing media discourse on the internet, and to leverage this role in exposing discourses of extremism, violence, hatred, and the promotion of various criminal practices.
Recommendations addressed to Arab security media agencies included giving due attention to developing legislative frameworks related to media coverage of terrorism issues, aiming to achieve the desired balance between preventing the use of media to spread terrorism on one hand, and ensuring freedom of opinion and expression and the right to access information on the other. The recommendations also called for concerted efforts to combat terrorism, extremism, violence, and hatred.
Furthermore, the conference urged agencies to prepare joint media campaigns at the Arab level on relevant occasions, particularly during the Arab Week for Awareness of the Dangers of Extremism and Terrorism, and the Arab Day for Awareness of the Tragedy and Suffering of Terrorism Victims, with the aim of raising awareness about the dangers of terrorism and enhancing a culture of prevention.
The conference emphasized the importance of security media agencies in member states planning effectively to utilize all media tools, especially digital ones, in the field of security awareness and crime prevention, particularly cybercrimes, while diversifying the production of attractive and impactful media content to influence the knowledge and attitudes of the Arab public. It also called for expanding digital media production focused on security awareness and prevention of emerging crimes.
Over a two-day period, the conference discussed engaging with new generations through digital platforms. In this regard, it called on Arab security media agencies to work on digitally engaging these generations through short videos featuring attractive visual content, particularly in the areas of awareness regarding the dangers of cybercrimes, extremism, terrorism, and addiction.
The State of Kuwait was represented at the meeting by Colonel Abdullah Al-Hajjari, Major Talal Al-Houtri, and Second Lieutenant Khaled Al-Otaibi.
