Public Works: Leveraging the summer period to accelerate road maintenance pace

Faisal Matar – The Ministry of Public Works confirmed that it is continuing to implement its comprehensive road maintenance plan across the country’s various governorates, taking advantage of the summer period, which sees a relative decline in traffic density. This strategy aims to intensify field operations and complete as many maintenance projects as possible, thereby contributing to improved road network quality and minimizing the impact of works on traffic flow.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, the ministry noted that carrying out maintenance works requires temporary closures on a number of highways, internal roads, and residential streets, according to a carefully planned schedule that considers traffic fluidity. The goal is to accelerate completion rates while adhering to the highest standards of quality and safety in executing the works.

The ministry clarified that these closures are part of its periodic and developmental maintenance plan aimed at upgrading the infrastructure of the road network. It added that leveraging the summer period enables more efficient completion of works in less time, given the lower traffic volumes compared to other periods of the year.

The ministry called on citizens and residents to cooperate with relevant authorities, comply with announced traffic guidelines and diversions, and follow the official accounts of the Ministry of Public Works and the General Directorate of Traffic to stay informed about the locations and timings of temporary closures. This will help them choose alternative routes and avoid congestion until the maintenance works are completed.
