Minister of Social Affairs: Developing services for women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities

Minister of Social Affairs, Family and Childhood, Dr. Amthal Al-Huwail, held talks on Thursday with Ghada Al-Taher, the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Kuwait, to explore ways to enhance joint cooperation in the field of sustainable development. In a statement to the press following the meeting, Minister Al-Huwail said that the discussions covered the implementation of development initiatives and programs targeting priority groups, within the framework of the strategic partnership between Kuwait and UN institutions, in pursuit of the Sustainable Development Goals. She emphasized the importance of launching targeted initiatives aimed at women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, thereby contributing to the improvement of services provided to them and enhancing their quality of life, stressing the need to direct efforts toward initiatives that yield sustainable developmental impact. She highlighted the importance of leveraging the specialized advisory expertise of the United Nations in organizing training programs and capacity-building activities for social sector workers, to strengthen the competence of national cadres and elevate the level of services provided to beneficiary groups. She noted that the meeting discussed preparations for launching a series of multi-partner initiatives between the Ministry, the Public Authority for Persons with Disabilities, civil society, and UN bodies. Al-Huwail further explained that the modalities for signing the Strategic Cooperation Framework were discussed, in coordination between the United Nations and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals and align with Kuwait’s national development vision and the UN 2030 Agenda.
