Unknown bidder buys T. rex dinosaur fossil

Sotheby’s auction house announced that “Guss,” a 67-million-year-old dinosaur skeleton, has become the most expensive dinosaur bone collection ever sold at public auction, surpassing the nearly $45 million price achieved by a nearly complete Stegosaurus skeleton sold at the same auction house in New York in 2024. “Guss” comprises approximately 61% of the skeleton and features what Sotheby’s described as an “exceptionally preserved” skull, including an open jaw filled with powerful teeth. Many scientists hope the anonymous buyer will display the skeleton to the public, allowing future generations to learn from and enjoy viewing it.
