WhatsApp resolves iCloud storage issue on iPhone

WhatsApp is working on developing its own cloud backup service for iPhone users, a move that could offer them, for the first time, an alternative to Apple’s iCloud service, with full data encryption enabled by default. Although the feature may help users overcome the limited free storage space in iCloud, it could also come with a paid subscription. According to WABetaInfo, a site specializing in tracking WhatsApp’s experimental features, the new service was discovered in the beta version of the app for iOS, version 26.28.10.16, via the TestFlight platform. Information indicates that users will soon be able to choose where to save their backups through the chat backup settings, while iCloud will remain the default option for those who do not wish to change their settings. WhatsApp plans to offer several storage tiers, including: ● 2 GB for free. ● 50 GB for approximately $0.99 per month, a price close to the lowest tier in the iCloud+ service. ● A 1 TB plan currently under development. A similar version of the service previously appeared in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android last April.
