6 Morning Habits That Could Ruin Your Day

Reem Qasim – Some morning habits may seem minor and inconsequential, such as rushing out of bed, drinking coffee quickly, and immediately engaging with the day’s obligations from the first moments. Yet these habits can negatively affect mood, energy levels, and the ability to cope with daily challenges. Below are the most prominent of these habits, according to a report published in Notre Temps magazine:

1. Lying in bed for too long: The alarm rings, but we stay in bed for another ten minutes, then five more. This time spent between sleep and wakefulness may seem pleasant, especially when we haven’t slept well. However, it can sometimes leave us feeling sluggish, as if the body is struggling to start the day.

2. Immediate screen use: Using a phone, tablet, or watching television from the first minutes exposes your mind to a barrage of information—messages and news headlines—all arriving at once, without any gradual transition. This direct immersion in current events can cause mental fatigue, sometimes even before you leave your bedroom.

3. Surrendering to worries from the moment you wake up: As soon as you rise, many thoughts easily slip into your mind, ranging from tasks you need to complete and appointments you must not forget, to concerns about family or health. This is a natural reaction, but it can make the day feel heavy even before it truly begins. The mind is racing with thoughts, while the body has not fully awakened yet.

4. Rushing through the morning routine: When time is short in the morning, everything seems more complicated. We dress quickly, search for our belongings, and rush through our activities without taking a moment to rest. This constant feeling of being chased by time can create subtle tension that lasts until midday.

5. Staying in a dimly lit room: Many people keep their curtains closed upon waking, despite daylight playing a crucial role in regulating our biological clock and helping the body recognize the start of the day. Without it, waking up may feel slower, as if the body is still hesitant to begin. Brief exposure to morning light can help us regain our energy more quickly.

6. Delaying or skipping breakfast: This may be due to loss of appetite, habit, or lack of time, leading some people to neglect breakfast. However, hunger often strikes in mid-morning, accompanied by a drop in energy and concentration, or a craving for a snack later on. Therefore, having a light breakfast helps us start the day with greater ease and vitality.
