Bellingham Ends Haaland and Norway's World Cup Dream

English star Jude Bellingham ended the Norwegian national team’s and its star Erling Haaland’s World Cup 2026 campaign after scoring two goals against Norwegian goalkeeper Nilsen in the quarter-final match between the two sides, which ended 2-1 in favor of England’s Three Lions. The English team secured a place in the semi-finals, awaiting the winner of the other quarter-final between Argentina and Switzerland.

England’s victory came after a contest marked by shifting momentum. Norway took the lead in the 36th minute through Andreas Schjelderup, before Bellingham equalized in the 41st minute, quickly restoring England’s presence in the match. The first half ended with both teams level at one goal apiece.

In the second half, French referee Clement Turpin disallowed a Norwegian goal in the 57th minute, and a crossbar prevented another from crossing the line in the 76th minute, despite pressure from England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford. Despite sustained Norwegian pressure, their forwards failed to convert it into a decisive goal, and the second half ended with the same scoreline as the first, sending the match into extra time, played in two halves.

In the first period of extra time, Bellingham scored England’s second goal in the 93rd minute, sealing a valuable victory for England and keeping their title hopes alive.
