Court of Cassation: 184% reduction in backlog of appeals

Judicial Editor - In implementation of the high directives of His Highness the Amir of the State, and in execution of the plan approved by the Supreme Council of the Judiciary to address the issue of backlog of appeals, the Court of Cassation continued its efforts aimed at enhancing the efficiency of judicial work and accelerating the resolution of cases, thereby achieving expeditious justice and consolidating the quality of judgments. These efforts yielded unprecedented results during the 2025/2026 judicial year, as the Court resolved 17,434 cases, a step reflecting the success of the approved plan in reducing accumulated cases while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy and quality in issuing judgments.

Final statistics for the judicial year, covering the period from October 1 to June 30, showed a resolution rate of approximately 184%, with a net achievement of nearly 8,000 cases, alongside an 18% increase in the case resolution rate compared to the previous judicial year. Furthermore, a comparison between the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 judicial years revealed a notable improvement in performance, with the number of resolved cases rising from 14,816 to 17,434, an increase of 2,618 additional cases, representing a growth rate of 17.7%. Conversely, the number of registered cases (cases filed during the year) decreased from 13,991 in the 2024/2025 judicial year to 9,482 in the 2025/2026 judicial year, reflecting the effectiveness of measures taken to enhance judicial efficiency and curb case accumulation.

This achievement underscores the commitment of the judicial authority to implementing the directives of the political leadership and the plans of the Supreme Council of the Judiciary, contributing to the development of the judicial system, accelerating the pace of dispute resolution, consolidating the principles of expeditious justice, and strengthening litigants' confidence in the justice system in Kuwait.
