Chipsy halts production of all products featuring Messi in Egypt

Chipset Co. halted production of all products featuring Argentine star Lionel Messi in Egypt, following fan demands and a campaign on social media that followed Egypt’s loss to Argentina in the Round of 16 at the World Cup, a match marred by significant refereeing controversy. Egyptian media reported that Chipset Co. stopped producing all products bearing Messi’s image in Egypt, amid public anger over the events surrounding the match between Egypt’s Pharaohs and Argentina’s Tangueros at the World Cup. According to many supporters of the Egyptian national team, the match was rife with major refereeing errors that contributed to Egypt’s 3-2 defeat after they had led 2-0 until the 79th minute. Media outlets stated that the company suspended production of all products, packaging, and bags featuring Messi as part of the product range it launched and continues to offer during the World Cup period. It added that all bags and products featuring Messi currently being sold in the market were manufactured prior to the start of the World Cup tournament.
