Preparing to Protect the Homeland: The Conscripts

Qiyas summary

Call to open the door for voluntary enrollment in refresher courses for former conscripts in Kuwait to strengthen national readiness.

Translated by Qiyas from النهار — Original source

We do not know where the region’s developments are heading. We hope the crisis will ease and that security and stability will prevail, but prudent preparedness requires that we not rely solely on wishes, and that we prepare for difficult scenarios without exaggeration or inciting anxiety. Therefore, I believe the time is right to consider opening the door to voluntary enrollment in refresher courses for those who have previously served in the military, across all cohorts, whose ages and health fitness permit participation—including myself. The idea is for the competent military authorities to organize courses that restore participants’ fundamentals in training, discipline, weapons handling, and safety, and update their skills as deemed appropriate for the required missions. These courses could be held in the evenings, provided training requirements allow, to facilitate the participation of working personnel, while leveraging existing facilities and capabilities without incurring financial costs; enrollment and training could be conducted in athletic attire. Not everyone’s role needs to be the same; participation would be determined by ability, specialization, and need, whether in military duties, medical assistance, logistical support, or other auxiliary services, under formal training and supervision. Importantly, these courses should conclude with a clear plan: each participant would know the unit to which they are attached, the task assigned to them, and when and where they would report when needed, in accordance with directives from the competent authorities. The aim is to transform the desire to serve Kuwait into organized readiness, and to ensure that ready national capacities find pathways to meaningful participation. May God protect Kuwait, its Amir, and its people from all harm, and may He perpetuate security and safety upon them. Yours sincerely...
