The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced, after consultations with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and the Local Organizing Committee for Saudi Arabia 2027, the rescheduling of the next edition of the AFC Asian Cup. Originally slated to take place from January 7 to February 5, 2027, the tournament will now be held from December 23, 2027, to January 21, 2028, in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
In a statement issued yesterday, the AFC explained that the decision followed extensive discussions, taking into account current developments and related logistical considerations. The confederation emphasized that the move reflects a shared commitment to providing optimal conditions for the tournament, ensuring an exceptional experience for participating national teams, fans, and all stakeholders.
The AFC praised the Saudi Arabian Football Federation and the Local Organizing Committee for their full commitment and readiness to deliver a world-class championship for the continent’s players and fans, reaffirming its confidence in their efforts to host an outstanding edition that reflects the tournament’s stature and the aspirations of Asian supporters.
The AFC further confirmed its intention to continue working closely with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation, the Local Organizing Committee, participating member associations, partners, and all relevant parties to ensure a smooth transition to the new tournament dates.
Yasser bin Hassan Al-Masahl, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Local Organizing Committee for Saudi Arabia 2027, told the Saudi Press Agency that the Kingdom is fully prepared to host the AFC Asian Cup. He noted that preparations to welcome the continent’s national teams and fans in January were complete according to approved plans, and that work would continue with the same momentum toward the new December 2027 schedule.
He added that the rescheduling means shifting the tournament to its new dates, while plans and preparations will proceed as approved. The committee is working closely with the AFC and all partners to ensure a comprehensive, high-level organizational experience and to deliver an exceptional edition befitting the Kingdom’s status and the prestige of the AFC Asian Cup.
