The State Security Department at the Court of Appeal, presided over by Advisor Abdullah Al-Sanea and with the participation of Advisors Meshal Al-Mutawa and Saud Al-Mutairi, heard cases concerning appeals against the rights of His Highness the Amir and money laundering. It sentenced a Kuwaiti national to three years in prison for publicly appealing against the rights of His Highness the Amir, disparaging the institution of the Amir, insulting the rulers of Gulf states, and inciting sectarian strife through expressing sympathy and support for the reprehensible Iranian aggression against the country.

State Security Agency investigations had identified posts on the suspect’s Instagram account containing images of the reprehensible Iranian attacks, including the targeting of a Kuwaiti oil facility, which caused public panic, as well as another image that grossly insulted the symbols of the state, its ruler, the rulers and symbols of Gulf states, and the leaders of friendly nations. The posts also expressed his gratitude and support for the bombing of US bases in Kuwait and the Gulf.

The same department annulled the three-year prison sentence of another citizen accused of insulting the Amir, having found him guilty, and ordered his referral to psychiatric care after it was established that he was not responsible for his actions due to mental illness. In another case, a suspect was referred to psychiatry for an evaluation of his mental faculties, while other cases, including money laundering, were adjourned for judgment next month.
