The Ministry of Oil announced the launch of the fifth season of the “Oil Innovates” award, in collaboration with the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity, one of the centers under the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences. This initiative aims to attract national innovative ideas and projects, and to harness creative talents to provide practical solutions to the challenges facing the oil and gas sector, thereby enhancing operational efficiency and supporting technological development and sustainability.

Sheikha Tamadur Khalid Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Director of the Public Relations and Petroleum Media Department at the Ministry of Oil, stated in a press statement issued by the ministry that launching the fifth edition builds on the successes achieved by the award in its previous four seasons, and reflects the ministry’s commitment to entrenching a culture of innovation and expanding participation opportunities for inventors, innovators, and entrepreneurs among national talents. This will enable the utilization of their ideas and capabilities to develop solutions that address the actual needs of the oil sector.

She emphasized that the fifth season adopts a more specialized approach by focusing on two main tracks: Energy and Artificial Intelligence, aimed at serving the oil and gas sector. The goal is to direct innovations toward areas of operational and technical significance, and to open the door for participants to submit ideas that are applicable and developable, contributing to improved performance and enhanced utilization of modern technologies.

Sheikha Tamadur explained that the first track, “Energy,” targets ideas and solutions that enhance the efficiency of energy production and its use in oil operations. These include improving energy efficiency in upstream and downstream processes, utilizing renewable energy sources, reducing emissions and flaring, as well as carbon capture, utilization, and storage technologies, and improving water and energy management efficiency in operational processes.

She added that the second track, “Artificial Intelligence for the Oil and Gas Sector,” focuses on leveraging artificial intelligence and data analytics to develop operational processes, support decision-making, and enhance safety. Applications include predictive maintenance for equipment and facilities, reservoir performance optimization and production efficiency improvement, computer vision for health, safety, and environmental applications, early detection of pipeline leaks, development of digital twins for facilities and assets, and improvement of supply chains and logistics.

She clarified that these areas serve as illustrative examples and are not exclusive to accepted ideas, as the award allows participation with other innovative proposals, provided they align with one of the two tracks and serve the oil and gas sector.

Sheikha Tamadur praised the collaboration with the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity, affirming that this partnership reflects the importance of integrating efforts between national institutions concerned with innovation and the oil sector, and contributes to attracting promising idea owners and nurturing national talents.

In this context, she commended the efforts of Nada Al-Daihani, Director General of the Sabah Al-Ahmad Center for Talent and Creativity, and all those involved with the center, highlighting their continuous support for the award and their commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Ministry of Oil and providing the necessary conditions for the success of its fifth season, thereby contributing to achieving its objectives of encouraging innovation and developing innovative solutions that serve the oil and gas sector.

Sheikha Tamadur announced the launch of the dedicated website for the fifth season of the “Oil Innovates” Award, to receive registration and participation applications electronically starting from November 1, 2026. She explained that the website includes all details related to the award, including competition tracks, target categories, participation terms and conditions, evaluation criteria, prizes, and the application process, along with answers to frequently asked questions, enabling interested participants to review the requirements and complete the registration procedures easily and clearly.
