The Royal Thai Embassy in Kuwait donated a collection of 100 Thai books to the Kuwait National Library, aiming to enhance cultural exchange and strengthen mutual understanding between the two peoples, marking the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1963. This took place during a book handover ceremony hosted by the embassy yesterday (Wednesday) at the Kuwait National Library, attended by the Acting Charge d’Affaires of the Thai Embassy, Orai Wan Korthod, and Mohammed bin Ridha, Director of the Departments of External Cultural Relations and the Kuwait National Museum, along with members of the Kuwait-based Thai Students Association, media representatives, and a number of invitees.
In a speech delivered at the event, Korthod emphasized the importance of cultural understanding and direct people-to-people communication in building solid and enduring friendship between the two countries. She noted that genuine relations between nations are not based solely on government-to-government ties, but are also strengthened through the understanding that arises among their peoples. She added that this understanding begins when people take the time to get to know one another, exploring the history, cultures, traditions, and lifestyles of others. She expressed her pride in the warmth and hospitality she has experienced from her Kuwaiti friends, as well as their interest in Thailand and its culture.
She explained that the donated collection includes diverse works covering Thai culture, arts, literature, and history, offering readers the opportunity to learn about Thailand’s heritage, its people, and the stories that have shaped its society. She expressed hope that these books would spark readers’ curiosity and deepen their appreciation for Thai culture.
Korthod also expressed her anticipation that the books would be housed in the diplomatic hall currently being established by the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters at the Kuwait National Library, creating a dedicated space that allows the Kuwaiti public to discover and learn about the cultures of various countries. She added that a student might pick a book from the collection out of curiosity one day, finding in it an inspiring idea or new knowledge that enriches their experience. She expressed her hope that these books would serve as a bridge of communication between the two peoples and as a simple yet meaningful step toward enhancing closeness between Kuwait and Thailand.
Korthod stressed that this initiative holds special significance as both countries celebrate the 63rd anniversary of their diplomatic relations, affirming that Kuwait and Thailand have succeeded over more than six decades in building a solid and enduring friendship based on trust, respect, and mutual understanding.
