Jordan and Syria announced an agreement to “form a joint security committee to ascertain the details and facts of the recent operations,” following airstrikes carried out by Jordan on Daraa Governorate. The announcement came in a joint press statement by the Syrian and Jordanian ministries of foreign affairs, following a phone call received by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaybani from his Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi. Meanwhile, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that the movement of passengers and commercial cargo would return to normal through the Nussayb border crossing with Jordan, after the crossing was briefly closed following Jordanian airstrikes in southern Syria. The Nussayb crossing is the only border crossing between Jordan and Syria designated for the passage of passengers and trade. According to the joint statement, Safadi and al-Shaybani reaffirmed their “firm conviction in the interconnection of the two countries’ security and their shared destiny,” and Safadi stressed Jordan’s “full respect for Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, security, stability, and the safety of its citizens.”
