His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Sabah inaugurated, on the evening of Wednesday, the events of the first French Week in Kuwait, held under the slogan “France in Kuwait” at The Avenues Mall in the capital. The opening was presided over by His Highness, with the attendance of several ministers, sheikhs, senior state officials, as well as ambassadors and heads of Arab and foreign diplomatic missions, alongside prominent public figures.

His Highness toured the exhibition pavilions, which witness broad participation from French institutions and companies across diverse sectors, showcasing French expertise and capabilities in culture, automobiles, high-tech industries, and corporate development, alongside the participation of well-known global brands. This event takes place within the framework of commemorating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Kuwait and France, and recalling more than two centuries of friendship and commercial and cultural exchange between the two countries, reflecting the depth of historical ties and the growing prospects for joint cooperation.

The event gains special significance in light of the momentum characterizing bilateral relations, particularly following the official visit made by French President Emmanuel Macron to Kuwait on October 19, 2026, during which he was received by His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. This visit marked an important milestone in the trajectory of relations between the two countries and witnessed enhanced cooperation in the fields of economy, defense, scientific research, education, culture, and knowledge exchange.

Strategic Partnership

Ambassador of France to Kuwait, Olivier Goffard, stated that the first French Week embodies the strength and depth of the strategic partnership between the two countries, which is built on decades of joint cooperation and continues to evolve in a manner that enhances prosperity and security and serves mutual interests.

Goffard clarified that the exhibition highlights the broad scope of bilateral cooperation, which encompasses trade, investment, education, culture, and defense, extending to emerging and modern technologies. He noted that the event provides the public with an opportunity to learn more broadly about French excellence and the diversity of products and expertise offered by French companies and institutions.

He added that French companies continue to offer their expertise and innovations in many priority sectors in Kuwait, while Kuwaiti investors and institutions maintain a significant and valued presence in the French economy.

He pointed out that educational and cultural ties constitute a fundamental pillar of the partnership between the two countries, growing stronger thanks to the continuous influx of Kuwaiti students, families, and visitors who choose France as a preferred destination.

He emphasized that French institutions in Kuwait play an important role in enhancing communication between the two peoples, explaining that the French Institute offers a diverse cultural program and contributes to renewing dialogue between the two cultures through French and Arabic language courses, while the French School serves as an educational gateway for youth to enroll in the world’s best universities.

Goffard expressed his sincere appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for his gracious patronage of the French Week, commending the efforts of Ahmed Ismail Bahbahani, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, and the team in organizing this event, which enhances communication and rapprochement between the two countries.

He expressed his hope that the French Week would serve as an occasion to celebrate what unites Kuwait and France, strengthen the bonds of friendship between the two peoples, and establish further partnerships that contribute to writing new chapters in the history of bilateral relations.

New Horizons For his part, Ahmed Ismail Bahbahani, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, affirmed that hosting the first French Week under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammed Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah holds exceptional importance in consolidating Kuwaiti-French relations, coinciding with the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Bahbahani noted that bilateral relations are at their peak of strength and prosperity, bolstered by strong support from the political leadership in both countries. This was reflected in the official visit of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to France in July 2025, followed by the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron to Kuwait in October 2026. He emphasized the importance of organizing such joint events on a regular basis, as they add significant value by opening new horizons for cooperation, strengthening cultural and economic ties, and supporting the trajectory of shared growth, stability, and prosperity between the two friendly peoples.
