Member states of the “Alliance to Prevent Atrocities and Achieve Justice in Sudan” warned yesterday of the risk of widespread atrocities recurring in the country, similar to those committed when the Rapid Support Forces seized El Fasher a year ago. In a joint statement, Germany, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, France, Norway, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sierra Leone, Sweden, and the European Union said, “Violence in El Fasher and its surroundings has reached a devastating peak after months of siege and escalating attacks by the Rapid Support Forces.” They added, “Civilians have been subjected to horrific atrocities, including massacres and killings based on ethnic identity, as well as widespread sexual violence.”
