Waha Bank announced its sponsorship of the “Universities Challenge for Recycling E-Waste,” as part of its ongoing commitment to supporting environmental initiatives and promoting sustainability concepts within society, while instilling a culture of environmental conservation among youth and students. This effort aims to build a generation more aware of the importance of recycling and responsible handling of e-waste.
This sponsorship follows a memorandum of understanding signed earlier this year between Waha Bank and Eco Incubator, the organizer of the challenge. The challenge represents an extensive environmental competition targeting universities, focusing on the collection and recycling of e-waste in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
The “Universities Challenge for Recycling E-waste” involves collecting and gathering e-waste from participating universities. Eco Incubator oversees the collection process, while Tadwiri Company handles the sorting and full recycling of the waste, thereby promoting responsible environmental practices and mitigating the negative impact of improper e-waste disposal.
The challenge builds upon an initiative launched last year in partnership with the Ministry of Education, which resulted in the collection of more than 5.5 kilograms of e-waste, underscoring the importance of continuing and expanding participation in such initiatives.
In this context, H.E. Abdullah Al-Rashid, Head of the Human Resources and Public Services Group at Waha Bank, stated: “The Bank’s sponsorship and support for this challenge is not merely a transient gesture; rather, it is an extension of our firm commitment and our responsibility as a leading national banking sector to embrace environmental sustainability issues. We believe that true investment is investing in the future of our environment and protecting it.”
Al-Rashid added: “We strive to leverage our capabilities to support projects and solutions that mitigate the environmental impact of waste. From this perspective, we have chosen to adopt this initiative, as it goes beyond achieving environmental metrics; it fundamentally contributes to instilling and entrenching values of sustainability and environmental conservation in the hearts of our student sons and daughters.”
She emphasized that Waha Bank’s support for the challenge stems from its belief in the importance of enhancing environmental awareness among youth, noting that investing in spreading a culture of sustainability among students represents an investment in the future of society, given this group’s pivotal role in promoting positive practices and contributing to achieving environmental sustainability goals.
Several relevant entities are participating in the challenge, including the Public Authority for Environment, Kuwait Telecom Company, and several private universities, alongside Eco Incubator and Tadwiri Company. This reflects the importance of partnership and collaboration among various stakeholders to achieve the initiative’s objectives.
This partnership contributes to unifying efforts aimed at raising awareness about the importance of recycling e-waste and providing university students with the opportunity to directly participate in an initiative with environmental and social impact, thereby reinforcing concepts of responsibility and sustainability among them.
The initiative aligns with Waha Bank’s commitment to supporting projects whose outcomes extend beyond achieving direct impact, contributing instead to entrenching sustainable behaviors and practices among members of society.
