Under the patronage and in the presence of His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Salim, the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS) hosted a dinner gala to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The event took place at the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre, honoring the foundation’s journey in supporting science, research, and innovation, as well as its contributions to developing national capacities, disseminating knowledge, and serving Kuwait’s development.
In a press statement, KFAS said that His Highness’s patronage of the occasion and his meeting with staff members reflect his continuous support for the foundation and its scientific mission. The foundation emphasized that the visit demonstrates appreciation for the efforts of its personnel and their contributions to its progress, enhances communication, and serves as a motivation to continue giving back and to develop programs and initiatives that yield tangible impacts on society.
It added that the celebration marks a milestone for showcasing its journey since its establishment in 1976, highlighting its achievements in supporting scientific research, nurturing talent, building capacities, and forging scientific partnerships, alongside raising awareness of the impact of its programs and initiatives on society and outlining its aspirations for the next phase.
The foundation explained that this occasion evokes a legacy built by generations of employees, researchers, and partners, supported continuously by the private sector and through coordinated efforts with government, academic, and research entities to advance scientific progress and serve national priorities.
It noted that the anniversary events include a program of activities documenting key milestones in its history, highlighting its contributions in the fields of science, technology, and innovation, enhancing engagement with various segments of society, and providing a platform for dialogue on the role of science and knowledge in addressing challenges and building the future.
KFAS affirmed that celebrating its 50th anniversary combines pride in its legacy with renewed commitment to its mission, in line with its strategic priorities (2025–2029) for supporting research and innovation and developing capacities, thereby contributing to empowering future generations and building a prosperous, resilient, and sustainable future.
The Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences was established in December 1976 under the initiative of the late Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, as a non-profit private institution supported by Kuwaiti joint-stock companies, with the aim of advancing science, technology, and innovation and harnessing them to serve society.
