FIFA Suspends Hossam, Ibrahim Hassan, and Zico

The Egyptian Football Association announced yesterday that it had received a notice from the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) regarding sanctions imposed on Egypt national team coach Hossam Hassan, team manager Ibrahim Hassan, and player Mustafa Abdel-Raouf (Zico), in connection with the incidents following Egypt’s Round of 16 match against Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. In a statement, the Egyptian Football Association clarified that FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee had ordered a three-match ban for each of the Hassan brothers, while Zico was handed a five-match suspension. The association confirmed that it had filed an urgent appeal with FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee, requesting detailed reasons and grounds for the decisions, in order to study them, assess the legal situation, and take further appeal procedures in accordance with applicable regulations. FIFA had initiated disciplinary proceedings against the trio last August, following their comments after Egypt’s 3-2 defeat to Argentina, in which they accused the match referee of deliberately causing Egypt’s loss.
