Kuwait’s Assistant Undersecretary for European Affairs, Najib Al-Badr, affirmed Kuwait’s aspiration to strengthen its bilateral relations with the Czech Republic, particularly in economic, commercial, investment, and defense sectors, pointing to numerous opportunities that both sides seek to explore in a manner that serves their mutual interests.
In a press statement delivered while participating as a guest of honor at the Czech Embassy’s celebration of its National Day in Kuwait, attended by the Minister of State for Communications Affairs, Acting Minister of Media and Culture Omar Al-Omar, along with several ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, public figures, representatives of sponsoring entities, and friends of the embassy, Al-Badr extended heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Czech Republic on this occasion. He praised the trajectory of bilateral relations between the two countries and reaffirmed the desire to develop them across various fields, alongside intensifying political consultations between the two sides.
He emphasized the importance of enhancing regional and international consultations on issues of common interest, noting that the principles of dialogue and diplomacy constitute the foundation for consolidating security and stability in the region. He expressed his belief that the coming phase will witness numerous initiatives and achievements in relations with the Czech Republic and with the European continent as a whole.
Regarding meetings of the Political Cooperation Committee between the two countries, Al-Badr clarified that the two sides recently held a committee meeting in Prague, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, during which agreement was reached on several matters expected to materialize soon.
For his part, Czech Ambassador to Kuwait Juraj Chmela affirmed the robustness of bilateral relations between the two countries and the commitment of both sides to continue developing cooperation across various fields. He noted that the fifth round of Czech-Kuwaiti political consultations, held in October this year, despite the security challenges facing the region, reflects the strength of the partnership between the two countries.
Chmela expressed his appreciation for the historical ties binding the two countries, noting that Czechoslovakia recognized Kuwait in 1961 and established diplomatic relations with it in 1963, while its embassy in Kuwait opened in 1965. He explained that relations between the two countries have evolved over the past decades, extending beyond the diplomatic sphere to include commercial, economic, and investment cooperation, thereby providing mutual opportunities and benefits for both sides.
Chmela stressed the Czech Republic’s commitment to supporting regional security and stability, pointing out that his country’s participation in the “Desert Storm” operation and long-term defense cooperation with Kuwait have contributed to laying the foundations of the close partnership between the two countries. He affirmed the importance of continuing and enhancing this cooperation in the coming years, in a manner that serves mutual interests and supports security and stability in the region.
