Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy, Dr. Subaih Al-Makhzoum, affirmed that “developing the energy sector is a national responsibility that requires a clear vision and integrated institutional action, balancing the fulfillment of current needs with preparation for future requirements, and enhancing the state’s capacity to keep pace with population, urban, and economic growth.” Al-Makhzoum stressed the importance of defining implementation priorities, clarifying roles and responsibilities among relevant entities, and linking work stages to measurable performance indicators, thereby enabling progress monitoring, addressing challenges, and supporting timely decision-making.

This came during Minister Al-Makhzoum’s chairmanship of the third meeting of the Supreme Energy Committee, which reviewed the progress of the committee’s technical teams and examined the outputs of the consultancy study on the 2035 Energy Sector Transformation Implementation Plan.

The committee reviewed the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy’s presentation on the progress of the technical teams’ follow-up team, which included the work framework, achievements of the three technical teams, key challenges they face, and the directives required from the committee to support ongoing work. The committee also reviewed the presentation submitted by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences regarding the outputs of the consultancy study for the 2035 Energy Sector Transformation Implementation Plan, which covered targets for 2035 and 2060, the Growth Compact, the portfolio of projects, policies, and studies, as well as the governance model and performance measurement indicators.

Al-Makhzoum added that the success of the energy sector transformation is measured by our ability to translate plans into on-the-ground projects that enhance supply reliability, improve resource efficiency, and support energy mix diversification and the expansion of renewable energy, in alignment with Kuwait’s priorities and development needs.

He commended the efforts of the technical teams and participating entities, emphasizing that the integration of governmental, scientific, and technical expertise contributes to developing practical solutions based on studies and data, and enhances planning and implementation efficiency. He clarified that what is achieved today in the energy sector will have a lasting impact on future generations, necessitating continued teamwork to build a more efficient, flexible, and sustainable energy system that supports Kuwait’s development trajectory.
