Riyadh (Agencies): One hundred and seventy-six ministers, scholars, muftis, heads of associations, universities, and Islamic institutions from more than 70 countries around the world expressed their strong condemnation and deep outrage at the attacks carried out by Iran-backed Houthi militias against Saudi Arabia, which pose a threat to the security of the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of their pilgrims, and target airports and civilian and vital facilities. They affirmed their full support for Riyadh in all measures it takes to protect its territory, safeguard its security and stability, and defend the sanctities of Muslims.
In statements and telegrams sent to Saudi Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al Sheikh, they emphasized that these attacks constitute a blatant violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites, an infringement on human and ethical values, and a disregard for the sanctity of blood and lives, which Islamic law commands to be preserved and protected. They stressed that the Houthi militias’ commission of these acts reveals their detachment from human and ethical values, underscores the danger of their practices that threaten the security and stability of the region, and necessitates a firm international stance that puts an end to these attacks and holds those responsible accountable, in accordance with international laws and regulations.
They also affirmed that the deliberate endangerment of innocent lives, terrorizing the secure, and obstructing the arrival of the guests of Allah (Hajj and Umrah pilgrims) to their destinations reveals these militias’ disregard for the sanctity of human life, their detachment from Islamic principles and human and ethical values, and constitutes a serious violation of international laws and customs. This demands serious international action to protect civilian facilities and ensure the safety of travelers.
They stressed that standing with Saudi Arabia in the face of these attacks is a duty and a religious, ethical, and human responsibility. They affirmed that the security of the Two Holy Mosques and the safety of their pilgrims is not a matter concerning the Kingdom alone, but an issue that concerns Muslims across the globe, given the exalted status of Mecca and Medina in the hearts of Muslims, and the inviolable and firmly established sanctity of Islamic holy sites. They pointed out that any infringement on the security of the Kingdom or the sanctities of Muslims constitutes an attack on the sentiments of the entire Islamic ummah.
They unanimously agreed that the measures taken by the Kingdom to protect its territory, defend its security and stability, and preserve the Two Holy Mosques and their pilgrims are appreciated and supported by Muslims and reasonable people worldwide. They affirmed the Kingdom’s legitimate right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, the security of its citizens and residents, and to counter any threats to its security or to the safety of Islamic holy sites and civilian facilities.
They highlighted the historic and pioneering role of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, in serving Islam and Muslims, caring for the Two Holy Mosques, and mobilizing resources and energies to serve the guests of Allah, facilitating their performance of rituals in security and peace of mind. They affirmed that these great efforts are a source of pride and appreciation for Muslims around the world, and that the targeting of the Kingdom cannot be separated from its Islamic status and its monumental responsibilities in safeguarding holy sites and serving their visitors.
They called on the international community and relevant organizations and bodies to fulfill their legal, humanitarian, and ethical responsibilities in the face of these attacks, and to adopt firm stances and measures that ensure the deterrence and accountability of the perpetrators, and prevent their recurrence. They reaffirmed their unwavering solidarity and full support for the Kingdom, its leadership, and its people in confronting all threats to its security, stability, and the sacred sites of Muslims.
