In a press statement, the Capital Governorate said that Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salim received a detailed briefing during the visit on the project’s stages and implementation mechanism. The plan includes setting up a temporary market to ensure uninterrupted sales operations, alongside upgrading infrastructure and service facilities, improving entry and exit traffic flow, and increasing the number of stalls from 214 to more than 240. These measures are designed to boost the market’s capacity and provide a more organized and comfortable environment for vendors and shoppers.

The statement added that the official opening and commencement of operations at the temporary market are scheduled for Thursday, ensuring the continuity of commercial activity and service provision to the public throughout the development works on the main market.

Sheikh Al-Salim emphasized the Capital Governorate’s commitment to monitoring development and service projects that contribute to improving the quality of services for citizens and residents, stressing the importance of coordination and cooperation among relevant authorities to ensure that development works proceed according to established plans, while taking into account the needs of stall owners and maintaining the continuity of their commercial activities.

He noted that the East Fish Market is part of Kuwait’s historical memory and maritime heritage, underscoring the importance of striking a balance between preserving the market’s heritage character and keeping pace with development and modernization requirements.

He praised the efforts of the implementing company and the participating government entities, commending their collaboration in developing this vital facility, and expressed hope that the development works would present the market in a civilized manner that reflects its historical significance and meets the aspirations of its visitors.
