The Spanish Ambassador to Kuwait, Manuel Hernandez Gamayo, affirmed that Kuwait represents a pillar of moderation and peace in the region, praising its historical role in regional mediation, its commitment to international law, and its humanitarian contributions worldwide. He emphasized his country’s determination to strengthen bilateral ties and elevate them to the level of a strategic partnership.

These remarks were made during a speech by the Ambassador at a reception hosted by the Spanish Embassy on Sunday evening, in celebration of Spain’s National Day. The event was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Hamad Al-Mushaan, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Mishaal Al-Mubarak Al-Sabah, along with several members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations, and members of the Spanish community in Kuwait.

Gamayo stated that Kuwaiti-Spanish relations are entering a promising and dynamic phase, pointing to the recent round of bilateral political consultations held in Madrid on October 7. Both sides agreed to work toward establishing a strategic political dialogue, encompassing high-level meetings and specialized working groups on various issues.

He clarified that future cooperation will focus on strategic sectors, including defense, health, cybersecurity, and food security, alongside discussions on arrangements for important visits between the two countries.

On economic and investment cooperation, the Spanish Ambassador noted that economic indicators reflect Kuwait’s status as a strategic partner for Spain. He highlighted the growth in Spanish exports to Kuwait in recent years and noted that Spanish imports from Kuwait rose by more than 200 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year. He also pointed out the presence of prominent Spanish companies in the Kuwaiti market, operating in strategic sectors such as renewable energy, oil, civil aviation, and transport infrastructure, emphasizing that their achievements reflect Spain’s commitment to supporting development and progress in Kuwait.

He revealed plans to organize the next meeting of the Kuwaiti-Spanish Joint Economic Commission in Madrid in 2027, aiming to expand economic and investment cooperation between the two countries. He added that relations extend beyond trade to include the growing movement of Kuwaiti citizens traveling to Spain, Kuwaiti investments in the real estate sector, and the increasing interest of Kuwaiti students in studying at Spanish universities.

On the consular front, he noted that the facilitation of Schengen visa procedures has positively impacted the operations of the consular section at the embassy, resulting in smoother and faster processing.
