US Plan for 3 Days of 'Intense War' Against Iran

Washington – Agencies: The New York Times revealed that the US Department of Defense, the Pentagon, has drawn up new plans to resume major military operations against Iran, including an intensive air campaign lasting approximately three days, as President Donald Trump remains hesitant to issue a final decision to restart the war. The newspaper quoted US officials as saying the Pentagon had prepared military options targeting Iran’s missile arsenal and drone fleets, alongside energy facilities and other military sites, including command centers and headquarters of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. The report noted that Trump had previously rejected five military proposals over the past months, which aimed to carry out broad operations against Iran or the Houthi group in Yemen, before asking again for options to be prepared for new strikes against Tehran.

These military plans coincide with an enhanced US presence in the Middle East. The report indicated that three aircraft carriers are expected to be in the region in a military buildup reflecting Washington’s preparedness for the possibility of resuming combat operations. However, the newspaper quoted officials as saying that preparing plans does not mean a final decision has been made to execute them, particularly since Trump has expressed hesitation on multiple occasions about returning to a large-scale military campaign.

The US president had announced, in a post on his Truth Social platform, that the United States would not resume attacks on Iran before the midterm elections scheduled for November 3, noting that talks with Tehran were making progress.

In a related development, Israeli media revealed that Israel is preparing for the possibility of resuming war against Iran before the Knesset elections scheduled for late October, including a scenario in which it receives a green light from the US to launch a unilateral attack, despite Israeli security assessments that suggest a low probability of a military operation before the elections. The Israeli Broadcasting Authority stated that Israel is preparing for the possibility that Trump will order a resumption of the war against Iran before the Israeli elections, amid ongoing Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and intelligence reports indicating that Tehran is accelerating the rehabilitation of ballistic missile and drone production lines. It added that one of the proposed scenarios involves the Trump administration granting Israel a “green light” to carry out a unilateral military strike against Iran, noting that such a development could affect the timing of the Knesset elections. However, the Authority quoted an Israeli source as saying the likelihood of Israel launching an attack on Iran before the elections is “low.”

In the same context, the Israeli “Walla” news site reported that Americans had requested that Israel, during security talks held over the past two weeks between Israel and the United States, launch an independent attack on Tehran without US military involvement. The Israeli site added that this step was halted after Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir clarified to his US counterparts that such a strike would most likely lead to the postponement of elections in Israel.

For his part, Hassan Qashqavi, spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of the Iranian Parliament, renewed his assertion that Tehran remains committed to the seven conditions proposed within the framework of negotiations with the United States, known as the “Seven Days Plan.” He added that these conditions had been approved by the “Supreme Authorities” of the system and “cannot be modified or retracted at any level of decision-making,” according to his statement.
