The Committee of Ministers of Social Affairs and Development of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries honored Dr. Hessa Majid Al-Shahin, in recognition of her pioneering contributions to social volunteer work, during its twelfth meeting held in the Kingdom of Bahrain. Dr. Al-Shahin was selected for the honor based on a nomination by the Kuwait Association for Combating Smoking and Cancer, and with the endorsement of the Kuwait Ministry of Social Affairs, acknowledging her extensive efforts in raising awareness about the dangers of smoking and cancer, as well as her contributions to community service and the promotion of volunteer work over decades of diligent and productive service.
This recognition is part of an initiative to honor leading projects and individuals in the field of social work across GCC countries, coordinated and organized by the Executive Office of the Council of Ministers of Labor and the Council of Ministers of Social Affairs of the GCC, with the aim of highlighting outstanding experiences and appreciating those who contribute to the well-being of Gulf societies.
In a statement, Dr. Hessa expressed that such recognition reflects the GCC’s commitment and the dedication of the Ministers of Social Affairs within the Council to honor and encourage Gulf society to contribute to the advancement of our nations, and to highlight the role of volunteering in supporting the comprehensive development our Gulf countries are experiencing. She emphasized that this honor is not merely personal, but rather a testament to Kuwaiti volunteerism, to the Kuwait Association for Combating Smoking and Cancer, and to its media arm, the National Campaign Against Cancer “KAN.”
She extended her gratitude to the Ministry of Social Affairs, its Minister Dr. Amthal Al-Huwaili, and the ministry’s leadership. She dedicated this honor to her family, who supported her, and to her homeland, Kuwait, praying to God to protect Kuwait under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Emir of Kuwait, and his Crown Prince, and to the Kuwaiti people, whose generosity and humanity have been widely recognized.
