Prime Minister Receives UN High Representative

His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Prime Minister, chaired a meeting regarding the observations and requirements of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). During the meeting, the latest developments concerning the addressing of FATF observations and the follow-up on the implementation of related requirements were reviewed, alongside discussions on mechanisms to harmonize national efforts and accelerate progress within specified timelines, reflecting Kuwait’s commitment to meeting international standards and enhancing the efficiency of its anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing framework.

Attendees included Minister of Justice Nasser Al-Samit; Minister of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy Dr. Subaih Al-Makhzoum; Minister of State for Economic Affairs and Investment and Acting Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdulaziz Al-Marzouq; Minister of Finance Dr. Yaqoub Al-Rafai; Advisor to the Prime Minister’s Diwan Sheikh Dr. Bassel Al-Sabah; Director General of the Direct Investment Promotion Authority Sheikh Dr. Meshal Al-Jaber; and Governor of the Central Bank of Kuwait, Bassel Ahmad Al-Haroun, along with representatives from relevant authorities.

Yesterday, the Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah, received, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Jaraah Al-Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Ms. Mari Yamashita, the UN Secretary-General’s High Representative for the Implementation of Security Council Resolution 2792 (2025), and her accompanying delegation, on the occasion of her visit to the country. Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Organizations Affairs, Ambassador Sadiq Muhammad Ma’arifi, attended the meeting.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Jaraah Al-Jaber also received Ms. Mari Yamashita, the UN Secretary-General’s High Representative for the Implementation of Security Council Resolution 2792 (2025) concerning the follow-up on the file of missing Kuwaitis and third-country nationals, and the return of Kuwaiti property, including the National Archives, on the occasion of her official visit to Kuwait.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the meeting discussed efforts aimed at achieving tangible progress in the search for missing Kuwaitis and third-country nationals, determining their fate, and recovering Kuwaiti property, including the National Archives.
