Mamdani: Our tax money funds war crimes in Gaza
New York – Agencies: New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani called for rejecting the continuation of the occupation, the apartheid system, and impunity for war criminals, in the course of his condemnation of Israel’s genocidal war on the besieged Gaza Strip. Mamdani accused Hamas of committing what he described as “war crimes” in a post on the X platform marking the anniversary of the October 7 war attack. He continued, “The suffering did not begin and did not end on that day; rather, it has continued through a genocide being carried out by Israel in Gaza, which has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians.” Mamdani clarified that the suffering of Gaza’s residents intensified with Israel’s bombing of ambulances, buildings, and journalists, as well as the blocking of food shipments, criticizing U.S. support for Israel by saying, “Our tax dollars are funding these war crimes.” He pointed out that the U.S. administration is “complicit with every shipment of weapons sent,” calling for “the necessity to struggle for a world where everyone lives in freedom and dignity.” The New York mayor stressed the need “to reject the continuation of the occupation, the apartheid system, and impunity for war criminals.” In response, Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, accused Mamdani of attempting to hijack the “memorial day” for the events of October 7, turning it into “another day for promoting and propagandizing against Israel.” Mamdani had previously launched a sharp attack on Netanyahu last September, describing him as a “war criminal” and the “architect of genocide” against the Palestinian people.
