In line with the Sultanate of Oman’s commitment to building bridges and strengthening its relations with various countries around the world, His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq paid a visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan, marking the first visit by an Omani Sultan to this country and to Central Asia. The visit represents the culmination of Omani-Kazakhstani relations spanning more than three decades, opens new horizons for bilateral ties, and reflects the Sultanate’s international standing.
This historic and successful visit, along with His Majesty’s meeting with His Excellency President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and the warm welcome extended in Astana, serves as a strong indicator of the development and growth achieved in relations between the two countries in recent years. The signing of agreements, particularly in investment, trade, and economic sectors, marks a genuine beginning to translating these ties into practical outcomes, as noted by the Kazakh President, for the benefit and interest of both friendly nations and their peoples.
The visit opens a new chapter between the Sultanate and Central Asian countries. Engaging with these nations leverages the country’s strategic location as a commercial and investment window connecting Central Asia to other continents. Oman, praise be to God, is now entering a phase characterized by dynamic movement and a promising, forward-looking vision. The choice of Astana specifically as the starting point in Central Asia carries significant implications, the fruits of which will be reaped in the near future.
From the heart of Africa to Central Asia, and from Asia to Europe, the auspicious bird takes flight. The objective is not merely to showcase Oman’s historical civilization, culture, balanced policies, or Omani character, but rather to highlight the Sultanate’s commercial standing, available investment opportunities, and strategic position, along with its abundant resources, raw materials, minerals, coastlines, and sands, which facilitate other nations in utilizing these assets to serve their present and future interests.
Therefore, I consider His Majesty’s visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan not just another event on the calendar of his numerous official visits, which will be followed by another historic and important visit in the near future. Rather, it aligns with His Majesty’s wise vision to establish Oman as an oasis of secure commercial and investment stability within the broader Omani economic project, positioning it as a global investment window. This is due to its possession of multiple ports and airports, logistical services, and other assets that contribute to increasing trade volume with any country without causing harm or damage. Hence, it is imperative to activate the outcomes of these visits and enhance their utilization across various levels.
Today, the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Kazakhstan are linked by friendship relations characterized by mutual trust and respect. The results of the visit and the honors bestowed upon His Majesty (may God protect him) open promising horizons, indicating that the future will be brighter. In appreciation of the esteemed status of the beloved Sultan among the Kazakh leadership, His Excellency President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev awarded His Majesty the Order of the Golden Eagle (Altyn Qiran), the highest decoration in the Republic of Kazakhstan, granted to heads of friendly states. This honor recognizes His Majesty’s efforts and role in developing bilateral relations between the two friendly countries.
Over the past three decades, Muscat and Astana have witnessed notable growth in relations and the building of communication bridges. Kazakhstan seeks to benefit from Oman’s assets to enhance economic diversification and investment, particularly as Oman serves as a key gateway to the Indian Ocean and a commercial, financial, and tourism hub connecting Asia to other continents. Additionally, the Omani economy has become open to the world, welcoming all investors.
Thus, the visit carries significant political and economic implications. Politically, it will strengthen ties between the two countries. Economically, it will enhance commercial and investment relations, elevating them to broader horizons across various sectors. Active Omani diplomacy enables the country to exert strong influence. His Majesty’s visit to Kazakhstan, being the first of its kind, marks a new turning point in the expanding interest of the Sultan toward all continents and countries, serving as a strategic objective to make Oman a global gateway for trade and investment, and a direct maritime outlet to pivotal markets in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. This supports the realization of Oman Vision 2040 for a thriving, growing economy capable of adapting to regional and international developments. Oman is a promising investment destination that combines political and economic stability, enabling legislation, and a strategic location. And God is the source of all success.
