Manama (Agencies): The Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed full support for the position and efforts of Saudi Arabia to rid Yemen of the threat of terrorism, and called on the UN Security Council to put an end to Houthi attacks, according to a statement carried by the Bahrain News Agency. The statement said, “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the full support of the Kingdom of Bahrain for the position and efforts of the sister Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under its leadership of the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen, in backing the Presidential Leadership Council and the legitimate Yemeni government to end the coup, restore the state and its institutions, and free the brotherly Yemen from the threat of terrorism, and to reach a comprehensive political solution in accordance with the three reference points, thereby meeting the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people for security and stability.” The statement added, “The Ministry strongly condemned and denounced the continued brazen attacks by the Houthi terrorist militia on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, targeting civilians and civilian and economic infrastructure, and its desecration of the holiest places on earth (Mecca and Medina). These attacks included the capital Riyadh and the cities of Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, Najran, Taif, and Yanbu, as well as Saudi ships in the southern Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab strait.” Bahrain reaffirmed its full solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its support for all measures taken to “protect its security, sovereignty, and the safety of its citizens and residents, in exercise of its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter.” It stressed that the security of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is an integral part of the security of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, under the Joint Defense Agreement. Manama called on the UN Security Council, particularly its permanent members, to “fulfill its responsibilities in ending these attacks and their threats to the security of maritime navigation and energy supplies, and ensuring the full implementation of its relevant resolutions, foremost among which are Resolutions 2216 and 2817, thereby preserving regional and international peace and security.”
