The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the State of Kuwait’s strong condemnation and denunciation of the brazen and shameful ongoing attacks by the Houthi militia on the holy cities of Makkah al-Mukarramah and Al-Madinah al-Munawwarah in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In a statement issued yesterday, Tuesday, the Ministry said that these attacks constitute a provocation of the feelings of Muslims worldwide and a serious escalation in the violation of the sanctity of Islamic holy sites. They also include attacks against the capital, Riyadh, and several other cities in the Kingdom, as well as targeting civilians, civilian and economic assets, and ships in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which threaten the security of the region and the safety of maritime navigation.
The Ministry reaffirmed Kuwait’s unequivocal rejection of the recurrence of these hostile and cowardly acts, which represent a blatant violation of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and a flagrant breach of international law and international humanitarian law. It renewed Kuwait’s support for the legitimate Yemeni government, as well as for the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of the Republic of Yemen. In this regard, it commended the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s sustained efforts since 2014 to support initiatives aimed at achieving a comprehensive and sustainable political settlement in Yemen, in accordance with the three reference points, and its leadership of the coalition supporting legitimacy in Yemen.
The Ministry called on the UN Security Council to fulfill its responsibilities and implement its relevant resolutions, particularly Resolutions 2216 and 2817. It renewed Kuwait’s absolute solidarity with the brotherly Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its steadfast support alongside the Kingdom, and its backing of all measures taken by the Kingdom to safeguard its sovereignty, security, and the protection of its citizens and residents on its territory. It emphasized that the security of the Kingdom is an integral part of the security of the State of Kuwait and the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
