The Kuwait Stock Exchange, the strategic partner and official sponsor of the CFA Institute Research Challenge in Kuwait, organized the “Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy” event, in partnership with the University of Kuwait team, which won first place in the fifth edition of the challenge in Kuwait. The event is part of the Exchange’s participation in the tenth edition of “Global Investor Week” and the third edition of its “The Bell” initiative, reaffirming its commitment to enhancing investment awareness and developing young talent.
The winning team from the University of Kuwait comprised Abdulaziz Al-Obeid, Mohammed Al-Kandari, Mohammed Al-Zoubi, Sultan Al-Shahab, and Alaa Hamdan, under the supervision of Dr. Sulaiman Hamad Al-Badr, the team’s academic advisor. During the challenge, the students prepared a comprehensive research report on Al-Mabani Company, covering its operations, financial data, and valuation, culminating in an investment recommendation and a presentation of their findings before a panel of investment sector specialists.
Including the winning team in the bell-ringing ceremony reflects the Kuwait Stock Exchange’s appreciation for the students’ achievement, highlights the value of applied learning in preparing young talent, and encourages more university students to develop their research and financial analysis skills and prepare for careers in the investment sector. The Kuwait Stock Exchange has sponsored the challenge for the third consecutive year, as its first strategic partner and official sponsor in Kuwait. The local competitions of the challenge are organized by the CFA Society Kuwait, as part of the global competition run by the CFA Institute. This collaboration underscores the Exchange’s commitment to building educational and professional partnerships that contribute to human capital development and enhance the readiness of young talent for the financial and investment sectors.
Commenting on the event, Naser Misha’i Al-Sanousi, First Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communications at the Kuwait Stock Exchange, said: “The development of the capital market is linked to participants’ ability to understand information, evaluate opportunities, and assess risks. Therefore, at the Kuwait Stock Exchange, we ensure that market development is accompanied by investment in knowledge and talent, through initiatives that provide young people with practical experience and help investors make informed decisions based on research and reliable information.” He added: “We are proud of our strategic partnership and official sponsorship of the Research Challenge in Kuwait, which offers students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and adhere to professional practice standards and ethics. We congratulate the University of Kuwait team on this achievement and appreciate the efforts of the challenge organizers and student supervisors. Their participation with us in ringing the bell affirms our belief in the capabilities of the next generation and their role in the future of Kuwait’s financial and investment sector.”
Professional Practice
The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition that provides university students with practical experience in financial analysis and professional ethics. Participants assume the role of financial analysts by studying a listed company, preparing a research report, and presenting their recommendations, benefiting from academic guidance and professional mentorship. The competition begins locally, then progresses through qualification rounds to regional and global finals, where nearly 100 countries and more than 1,100 universities, represented by over 7,000 students, compete for the title. This experience allows students to understand how to move from data to evidence-based conclusions, test the assumptions underlying their valuations, and clearly articulate their views before specialists. It thus combines the development of technical skills with the reinforcement of accuracy, objectivity, and responsibility in preparing investment research—practices that are closely linked to the quality of information relied upon by market participants.
For his part, Dr. Sulaiman Hamad Al-Badr, the academic advisor of the winning University of Kuwait team, said: “At the University of Kuwait, we strive to empower students to read financial data, understand and evaluate company performance. The Research Challenge gives them the opportunity to apply this knowledge to a listed company and test their ability to build a comprehensive analysis and present their findings to specialists, thereby strengthening the link between what they learn at university and the requirements of working in the investment sector.” He added: “This experience helps develop students’ skills in research, analysis, and teamwork, and gives them greater confidence in presenting and discussing their ideas. We extend our gratitude to the CFA Institute and its CFA Society Kuwait for organizing the challenge, and to the Kuwait Stock Exchange for its strategic partnership, official sponsorship, and continuous support for students, providing them with this opportunity.”
Financial Literacy
The tenth edition of “Global Investor Week” will take place from October 5 to 11, 2026, under the theme “Invest in Your Future, Protect It Today.” Led by the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO), this campaign aims to enhance investor education and protection, involving regulatory bodies, financial institutions, academia, and other stakeholders worldwide. The 2025 edition saw participation from 137 entities across 118 countries and markets, reflecting the broadening of international cooperation in this field. The 2026 campaign focuses on three main pillars: investor resilience, digital deception, and fraud awareness, along with two complementary educational pillars covering investment basics and young investors and the next generation. These topics highlight the importance of verifying information reliability, understanding investment risks, and engaging consciously with financial content circulating through digital channels, amid the increasing use of technology and artificial intelligence.
The Kuwait Stock Exchange participates in the campaign as a member of the World Federation of Exchanges (WFE) and an associate member of IOSCO. The bell-ringing event falls under the WFE’s “Ring the Bell for Financial Literacy” initiative, which supports the goals of Global Investor Week and highlights the role of exchanges in expanding learning opportunities and enhancing awareness among market participants.
Commenting on the global campaign, Jean-Paul Servais, Chairman of the Board of IOSCO, stated: “Investor protection remains at the core of IOSCO’s mission. With Global Investor Week reaching its tenth edition, the campaign continues to address the most critical issues for individual investors. This year’s themes reflect investors’ need to remain resilient amid changing market conditions, verify the credibility of investment information encountered online, and stay vigilant against increasingly complex fraud schemes. I extend my thanks to IOSCO member organizations and regional supporting entities for their ongoing commitment to this important global initiative.”
Learning Opportunities
The Kuwait Stock Exchange translates the goals of the global campaign into local activities through the third edition of “The Bell” initiative, organized throughout October 2026 in collaboration with the CFA Institute, CFA Society Kuwait, the Investment Companies Union (UIC), InvestGB, the University of Kuwait, and Kuwait Credit Information Network (CINET). The initiative offers interactive sessions, workshops, educational programs, and digital content targeting investors, students, and youth, covering investment basics, market tracking, and credit culture, as well as exchange-traded funds (ETFs), fixed-income markets, and entrepreneurship. These activities focus on simplifying concepts and linking them to practical applications, helping the public understand financial options and associated risks.
The initiative’s activities complement the fifth season of “The Bell” podcast and the Exchange’s Academy, enabling access to content through multiple channels and supporting continuous learning beyond live events. Since its launch in 2024, the initiative has collaborated with more than ten entities, and its programs have reached over 2,000 beneficiaries. The podcast has garnered more than two million views across its four seasons, expanding the reach of financial knowledge beyond direct events.
These efforts align with the Kuwait Stock Exchange’s corporate sustainability strategy and its commitment to supporting education and talent development through partnerships that bring together professional, academic, and investment institutions. As the Kuwaiti capital market evolves and diversifies its products, the Exchange continues to provide clear content and practical educational experiences that help individuals understand the market and participate in it consciously and responsibly.
