Antigua and Barbuda: A Small Nation with Global Presence and a Promising Partner for Kuwait

When the Caribbean region is mentioned, attention often turns to its stunning beaches and enchanting nature, but Antigua and Barbuda represents more than just a distinctive tourist destination. It is an independent state with an active international presence, a member of the United Nations, the British Commonwealth, the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). Located in the eastern Caribbean, Antigua and Barbuda comprises two main islands and several smaller ones, with St. John’s as its capital. Since gaining independence in 1981, the country has enjoyed political stability and entrenched democratic institutions. Despite its small geographical size, Antigua and Barbuda has built a modern economy based on tourism, financial services, and international investment, with tourism serving as the primary driver of the national economy and a key source of income and employment. The country is also witnessing continuous growth in port and maritime services, aviation, and real estate investment sectors.

Antigua and Barbuda is globally renowned for the slogan “365 beaches,” meaning a beach for every day of the year, welcoming approximately two million visitors annually from around the world, which has established it as one of the leading tourist destinations in the Caribbean. On the international stage, it pursues a foreign policy based on dialogue, cooperation, and sustainable development, advocating for the interests of small island states in the face of global challenges, particularly climate change, economic development, and food security.

Relations between Antigua and Barbuda and the State of Kuwait are characterized by mutual interest and a shared desire to develop bilateral cooperation in economic, investment, tourism, and cultural fields. In recent years, these relations have seen notable progress, bolstered by a spirit of friendship and mutual respect between the two countries. Kuwait also represents an important partner for Caribbean nations through its developmental contributions and its leading humanitarian role on the international stage.

As Ambassador of Antigua and Barbuda to the State of Kuwait, I believe there are significant opportunities to enhance cooperation between our two countries, whether in investment, tourism, aviation, education, culture, or the exchange of expertise. Building bridges between peoples is the foundation of successful international relations, and Kuwait and Antigua and Barbuda share many values that can be built upon to achieve greater convergence and mutual prosperity. Although Antigua and Barbuda may be small in terms of area, it is a large country in its ambitions, open to the world, and convinced that international cooperation is the best path to achieving development, peace, and prosperity for all.
