Al-Burqan finished seventh in the IHF Men’s Club World Handball Championship after defeating Moroccan club Darb al-Sultan 29-25 on Thursday, concluding the tournament. The Hungarian side Veszprém claimed the title by beating Spain’s Barcelona 42-33 in the final, held at the sports arena in Egypt’s administrative capital, Cairo.

Egypt’s Al-Ahly secured third place with a 30-25 victory over rivals Al-Zamalek, who finished fourth, also on Thursday.

Al-Burqan participated in the tournament for the first time in its history as the Asian Club Champion, having won the continental title in Kuwait last July. This achievement marked the club’s first historic accomplishment at the Asian level.

Competing in the preliminary round within Group 2, which included German side Füchse Berlin, Al-Ahly, and Veszprém, Al-Burqan lost to all three opponents before concluding its campaign with a win over the Moroccan team, ending in seventh place.

The club gained valuable technical experience from its global participation, benefiting from exposure to different handball schools and competition against some of the world’s top teams. This will provide the coaching staff and players with an opportunity to improve their performance and gain further experience ahead of their return to domestic competitions.

The team is now preparing to resume last season’s competitions, which were suspended since March due to regional events, followed by the start of the 2026-2027 sports season, with matches scheduled to begin in October.
