The Criminal Security Sector, represented by the General Directorate of Criminal Investigations, uncovered a case involving the exploitation of a charitable project that collected in-kind donations, resold them, and diverted the proceeds for personal gain. Five suspects were implicated in the scheme: three Syrian nationals and two Egyptian nationals, as part of ongoing security efforts to combat crime.
Investigations conducted by the Al-Jahra Governorate Criminal Investigations Department, through the Salibya Criminal Investigations Office, revealed that a furniture transport company rented a website and a phone number belonging to a charitable association project via one of its employees, without the knowledge of the association’s members. These resources were used to receive donations of clothing, electronic devices, furniture, and food items, while misleading donors into believing the contributions were intended to support the project and achieve its objectives.
The suspects collected the donations through various agents, then appropriated and sold them in local markets or exported them abroad to profit from their monetary value, rather than directing them to the purposes for which they were collected. It was found that this activity was repeatedly carried out under the umbrella of the charitable project, generating monthly profits of approximately 60,000 Kuwaiti dinars from the disposal of these donations.
Additionally, the company’s warehouse located in the Umghara area was identified, and appropriate measures were taken regarding the seized items, with further procedural steps related to the case being completed.
