Diesel prices at European gas stations have hit a new record high, with the weekly average reaching 2.24 euros per liter, an increase of one cent from the previous week’s record, according to a compilation of national data published by the European Commission. Record average prices were recorded in twelve of the EU’s twenty-seven member states, including Italy, Poland, Belgium, and Romania, based on an analysis by the Agence France-Presse (AFP) of data that national authorities have been sending weekly to Brussels since 2005. Notably, diesel and gasoline prices have recently surged sharply, prompting U.S. President Donald Trump to explore the possibility of halting diesel exports.
