Trump nominates Dino Lafergita as US Ambassador to Kuwait

U.S. President Donald Trump has nominated Dino Lafergita to serve as the United States Ambassador to Kuwait, a move that is part of the diplomatic appointments of the new U.S. administration. The White House included Lafergita’s name on a list of nominations sent to the Senate on September 28, 2026, for the post of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States to Kuwait. The nomination must complete constitutional procedures in the Senate before he can officially assume the position.
Dino Lafergita, from Virginia, possesses extensive legal and government experience. He served as an attorney in the Office of the White House Counsel during both the first and second Trump administrations. During the first administration, he held the positions of Senior Counselor to the President and Special Assistant to the President, and participated in providing legal advice regarding the selection, nomination, and appointment of Supreme Court justices, federal judges, Cabinet members, and senior government officials. He also oversaw the legal aspects of nominations requiring Senate confirmation, including managing background investigation procedures, preparing nominees for congressional hearings, and coordinating with ethics counsel.
Lafergita returned to the White House at the start of Trump’s second term as Senior Counselor to the President and a special government employee, once again handling matters related to nominations requiring Senate confirmation, in addition to providing legal advice on security clearance issues and special investigations into candidates for government positions.
Currently, Lafergita serves as a partner at Sidley Austin LLP in Washington, D.C., where his practice focuses on government strategy, regulatory litigation, False Claims Act matters, and government investigations and compliance. His expertise also spans the artificial intelligence, robotics, unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), energy, financial, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical sectors. He is one of the founders of the firm’s Robotics, Automation, and Drones team.
