Al-Khalifa urges Cheferin to run for a new term

Qatar’s Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of the European Club Association (ECA), called on Slovenian UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin to run for a new term as head of the continental federation during the ECA’s general assembly in Copenhagen yesterday. Al-Khelaifi, who is also chairman of French club Paris Saint-Germain, told the 58-year-old Čeferin: “Football needs great leaders like you, and on behalf of more than 900 clubs in the European Club Association, we ask you to run again for the presidency next year.” Čeferin was first elected to lead the body that governs European football in September 2016, and was re-elected in 2019 and 2023. With his current term set to expire in 2027, Čeferin has kept speculation about his candidacy open, having initially ruled out the possibility.
