Doha (Agencies): Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majid al-Ansari confirmed yesterday that Qatar is continuing its mediation efforts between Tehran and Washington, working to build a common ground between the two sides, as Iran awaits the United States’ response to its latest proposal for a ceasefire and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
Speaking at his weekly press conference, al-Ansari said, “We are conveying messages between the parties to build a common ground,” adding that work is still underway to arrange meetings between the parties. He clarified that Qatar’s efforts represent an attempt to bridge the gap between the sides, emphasizing the continuation of meetings in New York, which hosted last week’s sessions of the UN General Assembly.
Al-Ansari stated, “The only solution to the crisis is dialogue and building a shared security framework, ensuring that our security in the region is not targeted.” He expressed condemnation of any targeting of infrastructure by any party, stressing the necessity of protecting it.
In a separate development, al-Ansari warned about the situation in the occupied West Bank, describing an Israeli attempt to impose a new reality and change the status quo. He said, “We reaffirm the centrality of the Palestinian cause and continue our efforts with our partners to implement US President Donald Trump’s plan for Gaza.”
