Kuwait, represented by the Public Authority for Combating Corruption “Nazaah,” participated in the twelfth meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Combating Corruption of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Kuwaiti delegation was led by Dr. Rana Al-Faris, President of Nazaah, and included heads of anti-corruption authorities from GCC member states, as well as the Assistant Secretary-General for Legislative and Legal Affairs of the GCC.
The meeting adopted recommendations stemming from the specialized Gulf workshop on “Combating Corruption and Identifying the Beneficial Owner,” organized by Nazaah in coordination with the GCC Secretariat General in July 2026. The workshop was attended by anti-corruption authorities, ministries of commerce and industry from GCC member states, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The workshop focused on identifying individuals who own or effectively control companies, and highlighted the importance of such information in combating corruption and preventing the use of companies to conceal illicit proceeds. The adoption of these recommendations supports Gulf efforts to enhance ownership transparency and cooperation among competent authorities.
The meeting discussed several topics and proposals aimed at developing joint Gulf efforts to prevent and combat corruption, including studying the feasibility of a common Gulf anti-corruption strategy to coordinate efforts and exchange expertise among GCC member states. It also discussed a proposal to hold a workshop titled “Mechanisms for Enhancing Integrity and Compliance in the Private Sector,” within the framework of strengthening national capacities and supporting the role of the private sector in safeguarding integrity and consolidating responsible business practices.
Additionally, the meeting adopted the results of the evaluation of research submissions in the GCC Research and Studies Competition on Integrity Protection and Anti-Corruption for 2026, which carried the theme “Combating Corruption through Non-Judicial Means: Theoretical Approaches and Practical Experiences.”
Nazaah’s participation in the meeting aligns with the State of Kuwait’s commitment to contributing to the development of joint Gulf initiatives and supporting cooperation among anti-corruption authorities, thereby enhancing integrity and transparency, protecting the achievements of GCC member states, and serving their peoples.
