Crown Prince Meets President of the Swiss Confederation
His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, met with President Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, at the Bellevue Palace in the Swiss capital, Bern, on the occasion of his official visit. An official reception ceremony was held for His Highness, beginning with the playing of the national anthems of both countries. His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, then shook hands with senior officials of the Swiss Confederation, followed by President Guy Parmelin shaking hands with members of the official delegation accompanying His Highness.
The visit also featured a celebration marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the State of Kuwait and the Swiss Confederation, attended by His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, and President Guy Parmelin, along with senior officials from both sides. The celebration reflected the depth of the historical relations and the close ties binding the two countries and their peoples over six decades, highlighting the development and growth achieved in various fields. It underscored the shared commitment to further strengthening cooperation and partnership between the two nations and advancing bilateral relations to broader horizons that serve their common interests and the aspirations of their peoples.
An official session of talks between Kuwait and the Swiss Confederation was held in Bern, with His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, presiding over the Kuwaiti side, and President Guy Parmelin presiding over the Swiss side. At the outset of the talks, His Highness conveyed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, the Amir of Kuwait, to President Guy Parmelin, along with best wishes for his good health and well-being, and for the Swiss Confederation and its friendly people, continued progress and prosperity.
The talks reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and their peoples, ways to support and develop them across various fields, and expanding the frameworks of cooperation between the State of Kuwait and the Swiss Confederation to broader horizons serving their common interests. They also discussed key issues of mutual interest and the latest developments on the regional and international scenes, exchanging views on these matters.
The Kuwaiti delegation included Sheikh Jara Al-Jarrah, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Sheikh Dr. Meshal Al-Jarrah, Director General of the Direct Investment Promotion Authority; Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi; Ambassador Yousuf Abdul Samad, Kuwait’s Ambassador to the Swiss Confederation; Ambassador Najib Abdulrahman Al-Badr, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for European Affairs; Ambassador Nasser Al-Hin, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva; Brigadier General Ahmed Al-Duaiji, Director of the Crown Prince’s Office; and Counselor Abdullah Al-Obeidi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Minister’s Office.
On the Swiss side, the delegation included Hans-Peter Burtscher, Member of the National Council and Chairman of the Swiss-Kuwaiti Parliamentary Friendship Group; Ambassador Andrea Roper Saxer, Representative of the Federal Council for Trade Agreements and Head of the Department of Bilateral Economic Relations at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) under the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research; Ambassador Didier Chassot, Deputy Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and Head of the Europe and Middle East Department at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs; Ambassador Gabriel Lüscher, Head of the International Security Department at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs; Ambassador Monika Schmutz-Kirguz, Head of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs; Ambassador Simon Pido, Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Swiss Confederation; Miriam Gurtner, First Secretary to the President of the Swiss Confederation at the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research; and Alois Pasqualin, Acting Head of the Bilateral Economic Relations Department for Africa and the Middle East at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) under the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research.
In honor of His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled, and the official delegation accompanying him, President Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation, hosted a luncheon at the Bellevue Palace in Bern on the occasion of His Highness’s official visit to the Swiss Confederation.
