Rabat (Agencies): Moroccan King Mohammed VI affirmed that any attack on Saudi Arabia constitutes an attack on his country, and condemned the Houthi group’s attacks on the Kingdom. This came in two telegrams sent by the King on Saturday to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in the wake of repeated Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. The Moroccan monarch stated, “The security and stability of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, like that of the other Gulf Cooperation Council states, is an integral part of the security of the Kingdom of Morocco, and any attack on Saudi Arabia is an attack on Morocco.” He added that defending Saudi Arabia’s and the Gulf states’ higher interests amounts to “defending our shared strategic interests,” reaffirming his country’s support for the Kingdom in confronting threats to its security and stability. King Mohammed VI expressed “deep concern and alarm” over attacks targeting civilian and economic facilities, vital infrastructure, cities, and residential areas in Saudi Arabia. He noted that “what intensifies condemnation is the escalation of attacks beyond targeting facilities and civilians to attempts to strike Mecca,” describing such actions as “an assault on the sanctities of Muslims and the sentiments of more than 1.8 billion Muslims.” The Moroccan monarch condemned these attacks, holding the Houthi group “and those behind it, who fund and arm it” responsible, and called for the imposition of “international sanctions” on those accountable. He also characterized the continuation of these attacks as a violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, including Security Council Resolution 2216 of 2015 and Resolution 2722 of 2024 concerning attacks on maritime navigation.
