UAE and Bahrain: A Tough Encounter
Rivalry intensifies between the UAE and Bahrain as the two national teams face off at 9:00 PM today in the second round of Group B matches at the “Gulf Cup 27” tournament. The UAE aims to secure its second victory in the Gulf Cup and clinch its advancement to the semifinals. A win for the “White Falcons” in this match, coupled with a Qatar victory in the other Group B fixture against Yemen, would guarantee both teams’ progression to the next stage.
The “White Falcons” opened their Gulf Cup 27 campaign with a commanding 4-0 win over Yemen, while the “Maroon” (Qatar) defeated Bahrain 2-0, strengthening their chances of securing qualification ahead of their final Group B encounter.
The UAE, champions in 2007 and 2013, failed to advance beyond the group stage in the last three editions of the tournament. However, their convincing performance in the opening match has put them in the spotlight.
Croatian manager Zlatko Dalic has urged his players to stay grounded and show “full respect to all opponents.” Dalic is well aware of the difficulty of facing the wounded Bahraini side, which will be seeking redemption and a positive result to keep its hopes of advancing alive.
Dalic may benefit from the return of his player, Balla Guilherme, who missed the first match due to injury. The Shabab Al Ahli player could provide an offensive boost alongside Yuri Cesar, Bruno Oliveira, and Nicolas Jimenez, who scored twice in the match against Yemen.
Bahrain, winners of the previous edition and holders of their second title in history, could be eliminated from the tournament if they suffer a second defeat, despite promises from their Croatian coach, Dragan Talajic, to secure a third title.
Talajic hopes to erase the negative image of the “Red” team, which has been far from the high level they displayed at Gulf Cup 26 in Kuwait.
Following the loss, Talajic said, “We made mistakes that led to the defeat, and we will work to correct them in the next two matches. I am proud of the team’s players and have full confidence in all of them to bounce back against the UAE.”
The Bahraini team will likely rely on most of the players who featured against Qatar in the match against the UAE, but they will be without Abbas Al-Asfour, who was sent off in the Qatar match after causing a penalty kick in stoppage time.
