Kuwait to face the Union tomorrow in the West Asia Cup

Kuwait SC begins its campaign against Al-Ittihad Saudi on Saturday at 5:45 p.m., in the first round of Group A at the West Asian Basketball Championship “Wasel” finals, held in the Lebanese capital Beirut and running until October 4. Also today, in the same group, Lebanese club Al-Riyadi faces Indian Railways at 8:45 p.m. Group B, whose matches start on Sunday, features Saudi club Al-Ahli, Lebanese club Al-Hekma, Qatari club Al-Arabi, and Iranian club Gorgan. The tournament format stipulates that the top two teams from each group advance to the semifinals. Al-Ahly hopes to compete strongly for the Asian title, bolstering its roster with influential players such as Americans Shianaw Onuaku, Christian Brown, and Dai Dai Grant, alongside Palestinian player Sani Sakakini. Al-Ahly prepared for the championship by holding an external training camp in the UAE city of Sharjah, where it played several friendly matches that helped bring the team to its best form. The team is led by Serbian coach Dusan, who aims to etch his name in the tournament’s records by guiding the squad to the title. Kuwait is considered one of the top contenders, given its squad’s ability to deliver top-level performances, as well as its extensive experience in the championship and in international competitions overall. Al-Ahly relies on its local players, including brothers Hamad and Mohammed Adnan, Omar Jawhar, Suha Al-Suha, Turki Hamoud, and Fahad Al-Dhafiri.
